Headmaster's notes
Education is a complex affair encompassing the preparation of a child in every respect for adulthood from an early age. The task of any school is to educate young people to become responsible, thoughtful and enterprising members of society. This demands the teaching and learning of a very wide range of skills, not merely academic but also social, physical, spiritual and emotional. Education is also a means of facilitating the realisation of self-potential. Many individuals play a role in the education of children and the influence of the family has a profound effect. The relationship between school and parents is therefore very important. It is an invaluable partnership with the common goal of seeking to achieve the best for the children in terms of stimuli, challenges, experiences and positive achievement. As such an open policy of reporting and dialogue is essential. One of the key impressions that I had of Gayhurst when I first visited the school was one of openness, friendliness and happiness of the individuals. Although much has changed since then I like to think that this aspect of the school remains the same as it has done in the one hundred years since it was founded.
